Mike Simmons, PhD, is a Halliburton Technology Fellow for Exploration. His responsibilities include advancing sequence stratigraphy-based solutions, researching Middle East stratigraphy, and integrating exploration workflows with 3D technology and the application of sequence stratigraphy.
With over 30 years of industry experience, Simmons led Neftex’s creation of a proprietary model of biostratigraphically-calibrated eustatic sea-level change as a tool and framework for interpreting and correlating data and the prediction of the key elements of petroleum systems.
An Honorary Professor at the University of London and a guest lecturer at Heriot-Watt University, he has published in sequence stratigraphy, eustasy, and applied biostratigraphy. He has served on U.K. governmental panels for geoscience, and is currently serving on a number of committees of The Geological Society.
He has a Bachelor’s in Geology and a PhD in Geology from the University of Plymouth, U.K.
